(100% Research)
1. Education:
This is accomplished through the use of field surveys; greenhouse experimentation to determine host ranges and pathogenicity; evaluation of nematicide efficacy in field plot experiments; screening of crop breeding lines for resistance and the investigation of crop rotations and other cultural practices on nematode abundance. Research Projects are:
- FLA-JAY-03021 (Biology and management of nematodes affecting agronomic crops). FTE = 0.5;
- FLA-JAY-2771 (Soybean Breeding). FTE = 0.3;
- FLA-JAY-03235 (Managing plant nematodes in sustainable agriculture with emphasis on crop resistance). FTE = 0.2.
4. Accomplishments:
- The major accomplishments of this program have been:
- The identification of the major nematode pests of cotton, soybean and peanut in Florida.
- The development of a soybean germplasm screening program that, in cooperation with several plant breeders, has introduced many soybean lines that have resistance to root-knot and soybean cyst nematodes.
- The development of crop rotation programs designed to maintain low soil population levels of nematodes and lessen their effects on crop yields.
- The screening and evaluation of many commercial and candidate nematicides for their influence on nematode management.
5. Career Publication:
- Book Chapters: 5
- Refereed Papers: 46
- Non Refereed: 49
